Abstract

Kata kunci : solution treatment, holding time, presipitasi karbida, korosi batas butir, ukuran butir ABSTRACT In the process of fabrication one of material that is often used is stainless steel because of its superiority against corrosion resistance. Yet often there are problems that occur due to stainless steel welding process is the carbide precipitation that occurs at a temperature of 425 o C to 815 o C called sensitization temperature which causes a decrease in the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel. In this study, welding using the material plate austenitic stainless steel 240 type 304, 6 mm thick, and using SMAW welding process with 1G position. Treatment process is then performed post-weld solution treatment temperature 1040 o C with a variation of holding time 10 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes and then made a rapid cooling with water media. The study was conducted to determine the microstructure and intergranular corrosion resistance. From the test results obtained metallographic micro variable holding time of 60 minutes has the most large grain size with an average diameter of 0,065 mm so as to make the material has the most excellent corrosion resistance to the corrosion rate is 0.463 mmpy obtained from the intergranular corrosion test methods potentiostat. Evidenced also from the test results SEM has less precipitation of carbides at the grain boundary as evidenced by EDX test that has high Cr and low C. Keywords : solution treatment, holding time, carbide precipitation, intergranular corrosion, grain size
