Abstract

The use of B40 biodiesel fuel in four-stroke diesel engines has drawbacks such as low calorific value and high fuel consumption. To solve it, this study analyzed the effect of adding LPG gas to the intake of a Jiangdong ZH1115N diesel engine to engine performance, with LPG flow variations of 0, 1, 2, and 3 liters/minute, as well as engine speeds of 1000, 1200, and 1400 rpm and loads of 2000, 3000, and 4000 watts. The parameters tested include power, torque, BSFC (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption), and BMEP (Brake Mean Effective Pressure). The research result show that the highest performance was achieved at a load of 4000 W, an engine speed of 1400 rpm, and an LPG flow rate of 3 liters/minute, with a power output of 2.567 kW. The addition of LPG could increase torque and average effective pressure, the lowest specific fuel consumption (highest efficiency) was achieved when the engine used only biodiesel without LPG. Thus, LPG is effective for improving engine performance, while a single fuel system is superior in terms of fuel consumption efficiency. The optimum combination of fuel use can be determined based on performance priorities.
