Abstract

Kata kunci : austenite stainless steel, intergranular corrosion, interpass temperature, dissimilar metal, impact, fusion line, weld metal, presipitasi, karbida krom ABSTRACT Austenite stainless steels are many used in the welding process of dissimilar metal in various industries due to its very well anti corrosion properties. However, the welding process itself will cause austenite stainless steel SA240 type 316 is susceptible to the occurrence of intergranular corrosion. Corrosion properties are affected by heat input, interpass temperature, and cooling rate. Interpass temperature influences will be studied in welding with interpass temperature variations 32 o C, 150 o C, and 200 o C. The tests conducted are ASTM A262 B, SEM – EDX, and impact test. Refer to the result of these test showed that interpass temperature affects the dissimilar metal welding between carbon steel SA516 Gr.70 and stainless steel SA240 type 316. Higher interpass temperature will cause smaller particle size. Smaller particle size will give plenty space for chromium carbide precipitation (Cr 23C6 ) to gather at the boundary particle. While more chromium carbide precipitation occurred then the material will be more susceptible to corrosion attack. However, welding process with high interpass temperature will give an inverse ratio to its toughness value. Wherein smaller the grain size will result in higher toughness values.
