ABSTRAK Mesin wire EDM merupakan salah satu proses permesinan non-konvensional yang dapat memotong keseluruh sudut yang kecil maupun berongga. Hasil dari pengerjaan relatif lebih akurat dalam kepresisisan dan kehalusan, namun prosesnya relatif lambat dan memakan waktu untuk pengerjaannya. Waktu yang lambat akan berpengaruh pada biaya produksi. Penelitian ini menggunakan material baja SKD 61 dengan menggunakan rancangan percobaan matriks orthogonal L8 (2 7 ). Parameter proses yang digunakan adalah low power, arc off time, feedrate override, wire tension, water flow yang masing-masing memiliki dua level. Optimasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Taguchi Grey Relational Anlysis dan respon yang diteliti adalah waktu dan kekasaran pemotongan. Setiap respon memiliki karakteristik kualitas Smaller is Better. Hasil perhitungan level faktor Taguchi GRA menunjukkan bahwa parameter-parameter yang paling berpengaruh adalah arc off time 43.58%, interaksi low power x arc off time 28.27%, feedrate override 24.07%, water flow 0.58%. Sementara low power, dan wire tension berpengaruh tidak signifikan. Kombinasi optimasi untuk respon waktu dan kekasaran pemotongan adalah arc off time 46 detik, interaksi low power x arc off time, feedrate override 5 mm/detik, water flow 7 kg/cm 2 . Kata kunci: metode Taguchi, Grey Relational Analysis, smaller is better, SKD 61, waktu, kekasaran, wire EDM ABSTRACT Wire EDM machine is one of the non-conventional machining which can cut off all little angel or hollow. Results of cutting are relatively more accurate in precision, but the process relatively slow and spend more time in processing. Slow time will effect the cost of production. The research uses SKD 61 steel by using experimental design with orthogonal matrix L8(2 7 ). The process parameters used are low power, arc off time, interaction of low power and arc off time, feedrate override, wire tension, water flow, which every parameter has two levels. Optimization is done by using Taguchi Grey Relational Analysis Method and the responses which researched are time and roughness cutting. Each response has characteristics Smaller is Better quality. The results of Taguchi GRA indicates that the most contribution of parameters are arc off time 43.58%, interaction of low power and arc off time 28.27%, feedrate overridden 24.07%, water flow 0.58%. While low power and wire tension haven’t significant effect. Optimization of combined for time and roughness cutting responses are arc of time is 46 seconds, interaction of low power and arc off time, feedrate override is 5 mm/sec, water flow is 7 kg/cm 2 .
