Abstract

Unjuk kerja dari mesin diesel dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor, salah satunya adalah back pressure. Sehingga pada umumnya produsen mesin diesel memberikan batas maksimal back pressure dari mesin diesel dikapal untuk mendapatkan unjuk kerja mesin yang maksimal. Dalam tugas akhir ini akan dilakukan perhitungan dan analisa back pressure pada mesin induk kapal Ferry 5000 GT, yaitu mesin Yanmar 6N330-EW 3500 kW. Latar belakang tugas akhir ini karena ada deviasi diameter pipa gas buang sebesar 100 mm, yaitu diameter desain 400 mm sementara persyaratan produsen mesin sebesar 500 mm. Perhitungan akan dilakukan secara manual dan pemodelan dengan menggunakan Pipe Flow Expert Berdasarkan perhitungan secara manual pipa gas buang diameter 400 mm memiliki back pressure melebihi batas maksimum yang ditetapkan oleh produsen mesin yaitu 3473,17 Pa untuk pipa kanan dan 3957,17 Pa untuk pipa kiri dengan perhitungan metode desain permesinan. Dan menurut prinsip mekanika fluida 3799,31 Pa pipa kanan dan 4333,59 Pa untuk pipa kiri. Sedangkan dengan pemodelan Pipe Flow Expert menunjukkan nilai back pressure yang terbesar yaitu 4288,17 Pa untuk pipa kanan dan 4484,17 Pa untuk pipa kiri. Sehingga hal ini dapat dijadikan rujukan bahwa back pressure yang dihasilkan pipa dengan diameter 400 mm melebihi batas standart yang ditetapkan produsen mesin. Kata Kunci : sistem pipa gas buang, sistem perpipaan, piping loses, back pressure, pipe flow expert Diesel engine performance is influenced by many factors, for instances is the back pressure. Hence to achieve maximum performance of a diesel engine, the manufacturer will established maximum recomended exhaust pipe back pressure. In this final project, the back pressure of two main engine Ferry 5000 GT which type is Yanmar 6N330-EW with 3500 kW power capacity. The calculation and analysis were neccessary because there was diameter deviation on exhaust pipe from design consultant and engine manufacture requirement. Where design consultant propose 400 mm exhaust pipe diameter, while the engine requirement is 500 mm. The calculation will be performed manually based on fluid mechanic theory and then compared with pipe flow expert result. The maximum recomended back pressure by the engine manufacture is 3432 Pa. And the rule of thum calculation shows that the back pressure of 400 mm exhaust pipe was exceeding recommended value, which is 3473,17 Pa for the right side pipe and 3957,17 Pa. According to calculation based on fluid mechanic theory it show the back pressure is 3799,31 Pa for the right side pipe and 4333,59 for the left side pipe.Whereas with modelling Pipe Flow Expert show the value of the largest back pressure that is 4288,17 Pa for the rigth side pipe and 4484,17 Pa for the left side pipe. In conclusion, from all the calculation above, it can be concluded that the back pressure value of 400 mm exhaust pipes are over the maximum back pressure allowed by engine manufacturer. So it recommende to be replaced by 500 mm diameter exhaust pipe. Keywords: exhaust pipe system, piping design, piping losses, back pressure, pipe flow expert
