ABSTRAK Air tawar, merupakan kebutuhan utama dalam hidup dan kehidupan manusia, tak terkecuali diatas kapal. Kegunaannya air tawar lainnya, baik saat kapal sedang berlayar, lego jangkar maupun dalam keadaan sandar. Kenyamanan hidup diatas kapal mulai terasa terganggu, bila persediaan air tawar mulai menipis atau habis sama sekali. Kegiatan seperti, mandi, cuci, dan pembersihan akan terhenti, bila tidak cepat diatasi. Bagi kapal - kapal perintis yang memiliki kapasitas tangki air tawar > 100 ton, tidak terlalu masalah, tetapi, tidak demikian halnya, dengan kapal-kapal yang memiliki tangki air tawar dengan kapasitas sekitar 50 ton, mereka sering mengalami krisis air tawar. Sejalan dengan perkembangan zaman dan kemajuan tehnologi, akhirnya di adakan Sistem Fresh water Generator. Sistem Fresh water Generator, sebuah peralatan yang berfungsi untuk memisahkan antara air laut (air asin) dengan air tawar. System ini mampu menghasilkan air tawar 6m 3/hari . Dengan mengunakan System ini maka jarak rute jakarta – sorong (papua) yang berjarak tempuh selama perjalan 1084 mill ,14 hari bisas terpenuhi. Dengan kapasitas FWT(Fresh Water Tank) yang mencapai 179.950 m 3 dengan jarak tempuh 1048 mill ±14 hari Yang membutuhkan 196m 3 air tawar Sangatlah tidak memungkinkan mencapai hari ke 14. di karnakan pada hari ke 14 dari hasil kompilasi perhitungan total air tawar minus hingga16m 3 . Maka perlunya di adakan System Fresh Water Generator yang akan memenuhi kebutuhan air tawar karna Sistem ini selama beroprasi mampu menghasilkan 6m 3/hari . Sistem ini perlu beroprasi selama 10 hari sehingga dapat menghasilkan 60m 3 air tawar dan total sisa tangki air tawar dalam 14 hari menjadi 24m 3 .
