Abstract
Mahogany wood powder and siwalan fiber waste have potential as raw materials for biomass briquettes due to their high calorific value, but they have not been optimally utilized. This study aims to analyze the effects of variations in the composition of mahogany wood powder and siwalan fiber on the quality of biobriquettes in accordance with SNI 01-6235-2000. The variations in the composition of the materials used were 100%:0%, 75%:25%, 50%:50%, 25%:75%, and 0%:100% (siwalan fiber: mahogany wood powder), with a pyrolysis temperature of 450°C and 550°C for 120 minutes. The tests included proximate, ultimate, emission, compressive strength test, combustion rate, and Thermogravimetry Analysis test. The characterization results showed that mahogany wood powder has a higher calorific value than siwalan fiber, which was 7,031 cal/g at 550°C. Siwalan fiber contains sulfur, while mahogany wood powder does not contain nitrogen or sulfur. The best biobriquette composition was obtained at 75% siwalan fiber: 25% mahogany wood powder with a pyrolysis temperature of 550°C, producing a calorific value of 5.10.41 cal/g, water content of 5.7%, ash content of 7.57%, volatile matter of 39.45%, and fixed carbon of 46.06%. The ultimate test showed a carbon content of 55.94%, hydrogen 2.95%, oxygen 5.95%, nitrogen 0.98%. Compressive strength of 122 kg/cm², combustion rate of 0.2152 g/min, SO₂ emissions were not detected, NOₓ 52 mg/Nm³, CO content of 7,151 mg/Nm³, and a residual TGA mass of 12%
