Abstract

Semakin lama material mengalami holding time dengan temperatur normalizing maka semakin baik pula mechanical properties nya. \Kata kunci : heat exchanger, PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment), normalizing, temper bead welding, metalography test, hardness test dan impact test Heat exchanger is one of the industry’s supportive instrument which functions is as heat transfer medium and also may functioned a s heater and cooler. In the make of heat exchanger which using a material that specialized as pressure vessel steel that has great toughness at low temperatur called SA 516 grade 70 steel. In the fabrication of heat exchanger, there is always welding repair with un-specified number that affect mechanical properties of the material. To improve the material’s mechanical properties that already lost somehow, and so post weld heat treatment and especially normalizing is needed. But then in the industry-world reality, both heat treatments are the one of requirement some code or standart which is mandatory. This final project intent on achieving the best mechanical properties with 4 main variable that is, specimen 1 will be given PWHT, specimen 2 will be given normalizing with 60 minutes of holding time, specimen 3 will be given normalizing with 30 minutes of holding time, and the last specimen will be given tempeer bead welding with controlled deposite methode as an alternate. Four of the specimens will metallography tested, hardness tested, and impact tested. The result is, specimen that normalized has recommended properties compared to others specimen. That is because the normalized specimen has low hardness value and has good toughness with varies temperatur in each of base metal, weld metal, and HAZ. The more holding time with normalizing temperatur will resulting in enhancement of material’s mechanical properties.
