PT. The Society For Protective Coatings). PT. Boma Bisma Indra is one of the manufacturing company in Indonesia which produce pressure vessel. There is one stage of the process on the workmanship of pressure vessel called painting. This study is aimed to analyze the effect of substrate temperature, relative humidity, and ambient temperature of the paint adhesion on the material. This is because the result of painting in PT .BBI frequent rework, causing both loss of time, money and effort. This study uses experimental design of the Box - Behnken with three factors and three levels and also based on the Box - Behnken design performed 15 trials. Then testing of paint adhesion on the material using Pull Off Test Adhesion refers to ASTM Standard 4541 and Standard SSPC 22 ( The Society For Protective Coating ) . Optimization of paint adhesion on the painting process in this study using a non -linear programming with the help of Lingo 14®software. Based on the results, the conclusion is that the substrate temperature parameters ( X1 ) , relative humidity ( X2 ) , ambient temperature ( X3 ) have a significant influence on the results of paint adhesion on the painting process. Optimization with non - linear programming produces optimum paint adhesion 8.54901 MPa at a substrate temperature parameter setting 20˚ Celsius , 75 % relative humidity , ambient temperature of 20˚ Celsius. The mathematical model of the response of paint adhesion to produce optimum adhesion isŷ = 4.0694 + 0.0151 X1 + 4.5795 X2 + 0.6784 X3 – 1.0806 X 1 2 + 0.0068 X2 2 + 0.6901 X1*X 3 + 0.8700 X2*X 3 Keyword: Adhesivity, Box-Behken, Non-linier Programming, Painting, Pull Off Test.
