Kata kunci: fire water system, pressure surging, ASME B31.3, pressure class, ASME B16.34 ABSTRACT Pressure surging is a condition where the velocity and pressure alter due to the influence of valve closing timing and pipe operating scenario. The present study investigates it on the fire water system in the main pipe since the system is required to operate a plant. Analysing the power of the pipe when the valve 1 suddenly closes is highly necessary to avoid any failure. In this study, the pressure surging and the total pressure in the system are compared with the Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) of the pipe based on ASME B31.3. In addition to the strength of the pipe, the researcher also considers other components, such as flange and valve based on the used pressure class. The results showed that the total pressure mass and the pressure surging were 43.869 bar fewer than the pipe’s MAWP (65.874 bar), so the pipe was able to take the total pressure. Furthermore, the researcher still considered the other components, i.e. flange and valve, with the pressure class 150 based on ASME B16,34 has the maximum pressure, i.e. 19.6 bar. Consequently, it could not endure to take all the pressure mass, so the researcher had to increase the pressure class up to 300 rates by the maximum pressure 51.1 bar.
