Kata Kunci : BKI grade A, FCAW, Tensile , Hardness, Metallography ABSTRACT Welding process on shipbuilding in PT X, usually the design of welding joints was square groove. But the WPS used was V groove. The selection of gaps and currents were vary. According to AWS D1.1 standard, the width of gap using for square groove joint should be equal to the thickness of the material. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of gap variation (5 mm, 7 mm, 9 mm) and current (110 A, 150 A, 190 A) on tensile strength, hardness, and metallography. The research was conducted by FCAW welding process on BKI grade A material with E71T-1C electrode and shielding gas CO2. The tests conducted are tensile test, hardness vickers test, macro etching, and microstructure etching. The results of tensile and hardness test were analyzed by ANOVA method, while the microstructure by Jeffrie Planimetri method. Based on the results and data analysis, gap and current influenced the mechanical properties and microstructure of BKI Grade A material. The larger the current and the gap, the higher the heat input, so it would cause the tensile strength, hardness, and HAZ area Increased, but the diameter of the grain size decreases. Based on ANOVA analysis gap and welding current have significant effect to tensile strength, but none on hardness Keyword : BKI grade A, FCAW, Tensile , Hardness, Metallography
