Abstract

ABSTRAK Material duplex stainless steel (DSS) merupakan salah satu jenis material stainless steel yang memiliki dua fasa yakni austenite dan ferrite, pada pengelasan DSS perlakuan-perlakuan khusus untuk menjaga dua fasa dari DSS tetap seimbang, salah satunya adalah proses backing gas. Dilakukannya backing gas pada saat proses pengelasan GTAW agar logam las tidak terjadi oksidasi. Pengantian backing gas ke back weld akan berpengaruh terhadap kandungan ferrite, nilai kekerasan, struktur mikro, laju korosi dan mechanical properties pada logam las. Pada penelitian ini akan diketahui bagaimana pengaruh penggunaan backing gas dan back weld terhadap terhadap kandungan ferrite, nilai kekerasan, struktur mikro, laju korosi dan mechanical properties pada logam las. Hasil pengujian kandungan ferrite dengan menggunakan ferrite scope didapatkan hasil bahwa penggunaan back weld dapat meningkatkan nilai ferrite sebesar 45 FE di bandingkan dengan backing gas sebesar 38 FE. Pada pengujian mikro penggunaan back weld dapat membentuk kristal (intermetalic phase) di daerah ferrite pada logam las dibandingkan dengan backing gas. Nilai kekerasan setelah pengujian hardness vikers bahwa back weld dapat meningkatkan nilai kekerasan di area weld metal dibandingkan dengan backing gas. Pengujian laju korosi mendapatkan nilai corrosion rate yang paling tinggi pada spesimen back weld dan yang paling rendah pada spesimen backing gas, hasil pengujian tensile bahwa penggunaan backing gas tidak menyebabkan nilai tensile strength berkurang. Penigkatan nilai ferrite content, kekerasa dan laju korosi disebabkan adanya pembentukan kristal (intermetalic phase) karena adanya penambahan panas akibat dilakukanya back weld, sehingga penggunaan back weld dapat menyebabkan peningkatkan nilai ferrite, kekerasan dan laju korosi. Kata kunci : Duplex stainless steel, backing gas, back weld dan kandungan ferrite ABSTRACT Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is one of stainless steel that has two phases, that are austenite and ferrite. When DSS material is welded, the special treatment is needed to keep two phases of DSS in stable condition and one of those treatments is backing gas process. Backing gas needed during welding process to prevent the occurrence of oxidation process on weld metal. Replacement the process of backing gas to back wed will affect the ferrite content, hardness value, corrosion rate and mechanical properties of weld metal. On this research will be known the influence of backing gas use and nonbacking gas by back weld method towards the ferrite content, hardness value, corrosion rate and mechanical properties of weld metal. The results of ferrite content test by using ferrite scope are the use of back weld can increased the value of ferrite content by 45 FE compared to the use of backing gas, which is 38 FE. On Micro test known that the use of back weld can forms crystal (intermetalic phase) in weld metal compared with the use of backing gas. From hardness test known that the uses of back weld can increase the harness value in weld metal compared with the use of backing gas. From the corrosion rate test known that the highest corrosion rate value is coming from the specimen by back weld process and the lowest is coming from the specimen by backing gas process. From tensile test known that the use of backing gas didn’t make the tensile strength of material decreased. The increasing of ferrite content, hardness value and corrosion rate happened because crystal (intermetalic phase) was formed due to the additions of heat on back weld process, so the use of back weld can increase the ferrite content, hardness value and corrosion rat e.
