ABSTRAK Petir adalah gangguan alam yang sering terjadi di Indonesia. Maka dari itu bangunan-bangunan di Indonesia memiliki resiko lebih besar mengalami kerusakan akibat terkena sambaran petir. Intensitas petir yang tinggi di Gresik, yakni 102 hari guruh per tahun merupakan ancaman serius bagi struktur area fabrikasi baja workshop1 PT. X. Menyadari kondisi tersebut, perlu dilakukan evaluasi sistem proteksi petir sehingga dapat bekerja dengan efektif dan efisien dan tidak mengganggu proses produksi di PT. X terutama pada Line F ruang K3. Peningkatan performa sistem terhadap gangguan akibat petir dapat dilakukan dengan mengevaluasi dan merancang sistem proteksi petir eksternal (terminal udara, penghantar turun, serta sistem pentanahan) dan sistem proteksi petir internal. Dengan analisis menggunakan metode sudut proteksi ditemukan bahwa pemasanganterminal udara pada struktur bangunan masih belum dapat memberikan perlindungan yang baik pada bangunan. Evaluasi dan Perancangan Sistem proteksi Petir internal dan eksternal berdasarkan Per. No.02/MEN/1989, SNI, PUIL, dan IEEE. Sistem proteksi petir internal pada struktur bangunan sebaiknya setiap panel yang berisi peralatan elektronis dan instrumen dipasang arester yang digunakan untuk mengantisipasi efek sambaran petir tidak langsung. Sementara itu sistem proteksi petir eksternal berdasarkan metode sudut proteksi (PER No.02/MEN/1989) air terminal yang seharusnya terpasang sebanyak 16 buah, down conductorsebanyak 10 buah pada sisi kanan dan kiri bangunan, dan elektroda grounding˃ 4 buah atau dapat mengikuti down conductor agar nilai resistan pembumiannya ˂ 5Ω. Untuk tindakan preventive maintenance dapat berupa pemberian kode pada setiap groundingagar mempermudah pengecekan, serta terdapat jadwal pengecekan sistem proteksi petir.
